Fault and Flood

Editorial Policy

Faultandflood publishes factual reference material and reporting on natural hazard events in North America, focusing on the hazard itself, the event, and its aftermath. Our content is organised into sections including Hazards, Preparedness, and Insurance & money. We will not publish content related to betting, gambling, or financial speculation on disasters. We do not invent quotes, statistics, or personal anecdotes. We will not offer health, legal, or financial advice presented as instructional guidance, nor will we report on the private, non-professional lives of individuals involved in disaster response or recovery.

The site separates journalistic reporting, found primarily in News and Warnings & forecasts, from evergreen reference material. Reporting covers current events and is dated. Reference pages, such as those explaining a specific hazard or detailing a state's risk profile, are maintained as neutral, citable resources and are updated as information changes, with update dates clearly shown. All content is written in plain, concrete prose.

When a claim cannot be independently verified from authoritative sources, such as an unconfirmed casualty figure or an anecdotal account, it will be clearly labelled as such. We will state the source of the claim and note that it remains unverified. We do not present rumour as fact.

All images used on faultandflood are real photographs. Where a credit exists, it is displayed. We will never use software-generated images depicting a real person's face. Diagrams and maps are clearly labelled as illustrations. Photographs are chosen for their factual relevance to the subject.

Readers with corrections, suggestions, or concerns about our content are invited to write to the editorial team via the contact address provided on the website. All substantive corrections to published material are noted at the foot of the relevant page.
